My roots in fiber art go back to when I was a teenager in Miami, Florida. It was the 60's and macramé was all the rage. I made the usual plant hangers and owls, but I also branched out into elaborate freeform wall hangings and knotted sculpture. In 1986 I relocated to Santa Fe and rediscovered my love of knotting in the form of jewelry. Over the years my work has evolved as I've explored new designs and materials.
My favorite jewelry creations are one of a kind necklaces. The knotted tapestry (Cavandoli) technique is a signature of my work. One square inch of knots can take over an hour and contain more than 250 knots. In addition to fibers, I often incorporate my own fabricated pendants of Silver, Copper, or Brass into my necklaces. I also use a variety of beads including stone, metal, vintage and modern glass. I draw on an intuitive design and color sense and get my inspiration from tribal cultures, Asian art, and natural forms.
In 2003 I started teaching micro-macrame techniques in workshops throughout the country. I published my first book; Micro-Macrame Jewelry in 2005, followed by my DVD; Micro-Macramé & Cavandoli Knotting in 2007. I enjoy meeting other creative people and having the opportunity to present a new perspective on macrame to a wider audience.
